Genie Francis goes on Medifast
by Dr Marc on June 14, 2007
Following in the footsteps of Jenny Craig signing up celebs Kirstie Alley and Valerie Bertinelli, Medifast has recently signed up Genie Francis to be their spokesperson. Genie Francis is best known for her 1970?s role as Laura on the daytime soap General Hospital; “Luke and Laura” for those of you old enough to remember:) Now 45, her goal weight loss target is 30 lbs, and we’ll get a peak at her progress when she walks down the red carpet at the Day Time Emmy Awards, June 15th. She was nominated for outstanding supporting actress for her recent guest appearance on General Hospital.
Her weight loss struggles:
Genie Francis reveals to People magazine that her weight “has been a lifelong obsession and battle.” According to People, her substance abuse problem with cocaine and alcohol that caused her to leave General Hospital in 1982, resurfaced in 2002 when she started drinking again. After a 21 day rehab, she had grown to a size 16 because “if your can’t have a drink, you’re in the Haagen-Dazs.”
Genie Francis’ Medifast Diet Plan:
Genie is on a rather low 1,000 calorie-a-day, Medifast diet. Medifast calls it their 5 and 1 program. It is a 5 a day meal replacement program which include shakes, bars, soups, and puddings. There is an additional “lean and green meal” consisting of a lean meat and a serving of veggies.
While Genie insists “I’ll never be starving,” the very low-calorie nature of this plan is going to make it difficult to stick with.
